This is Jonathan and his wife Nancy story.
Nancy’s Story
Nancy was diagnosed with non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma in 2007 when swollen lymph nodes were discovered in her neck and her first biopsy was done. Six months later, a second biopsy led to a diagnosis of a more aggressive type of cancer. She soon began six excruciating 5 hour sessions of chemotherapy over the next three months. Thankfully, the treatment worked and she has been in remission for the past 2.5 years.
Nancy knows her story might have been quite different if she did not have the support of her family and friends. In the picture above, a friend, her son Mitchell and her husband shaved their own heads when she began losing her hair from chemotherapy. Even her mother-in-law joined in and shaved her head too! She remembers fondly the trips she took with her girlfriends to shop for wigs. Grateful for having won her battle, Nancy knows the importance of being there for others who are also fighting cancer and being an advocate to help find a cure for lymphoma. This summer, she will be volunteering at a camp for children with cancer, One Step at A Time in Wisconsin. Nancy has also supported friends who were suffering from cancer. This will be her second year participating in the Chicago Lymphomathon, this time with her own team, to raise money for a cure. Go Nancy’s Ninjas!
